If the sponsor is a Lawful Permanent Resident (also known as a "Green card Holder"), then he or she must be the foreign applicant's spouse or child.

_________

Apply Green CardPhilhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04936393057105092047noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3402507721623055834.post-59913232486371449572009-09-16T13:28:02.935+10:002009-09-16T13:28:02.935+10:00Mildred,

On the other hand, an alien relative falling under the preference categories can only file for adjustment once the alien’s priority date becomes current. An immediate relative is defined as parents (if the sponsor is at least 21), spouses and children (who are unmarried and under 21).

For more general information, the uscis.gov website is an excellent source. Or you can arrange for an appointment with USCIS by going online to http://infopass.uscis.gov/.

Furthermore, because immigration law is very complex, people applying for green cards oftentimes seek the assistance of an attorney.

Good luck.Janehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00177424158274808645noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3402507721623055834.post-90627164067080518782009-09-16T10:33:30.042+10:002009-09-16T10:33:30.042+10:00Hello! I am filing a petition for alien relative, I-130. He intends to stay in Saipan once the petition is approved. Can I file the I-130 and I-485 concurrently? Or should I do the petition first then he would file the I-485 himself? Would appreciate your advice or thoughts on this. Thanks!Mildredhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13168197374168303028noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3402507721623055834.post-87442024183638893792009-06-12T21:24:38.366+10:002009-06-12T21:24:38.366+10:00The workshop sounds like a great plan. The workshop sounds like a great plan.Wendy Doromalhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09110610716939090029noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3402507721623055834.post-20156832416971958972009-06-02T16:50:47.857+10:002009-06-02T16:50:47.857+10:00People are not required to have attorneys.

But we can't possibly handle the need.

I'm hoping we'll have a workshop presentation later (possibly in September), where we just do a simple walk-through of the forms and how people can complete the process on their own.Saipan Writerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10030098267460841286noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3402507721623055834.post-40163765025128531302009-06-01T19:55:41.829+10:002009-06-01T19:55:41.829+10:00I am amazed that it costs up to $1,000 to hire an ...I am amazed that it costs up to $1,000 to hire an attorney to process a green card. I thought the paperwork was fairly self-explanatory and did it myself when applying for my husband and later, his mom. Is there a pro bono service anywhere on Saipan for those needing assistance in completing the paperwork?Wendy Doromalhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09110610716939090029noreply@blogger.com
